Jane Emberson is an artist who expresses her love of the landscape in a unique and dynamic way. The centralised forms of jewel-coloured entities seem to explode onto the canvas inviting the viewer to explore the microcosmic details of her universe. Each entity represents a new world as seen from above or below, and plays host to a myriad of swirling oceans, mountain ranges and stormy skies.

Her inspiration comes almost entirely from the natural world. From the sculptural shapes that form the horizon to intricate patterns found in nature, these are all themes which fire her imagination and result in paintings which pay homage to the wonders of the universe.

Many years spent sailing around Europe observing the vibrant colours of the Mediterranean are evident everywhere in her work as are the references to ancient civilisations and mythology. Largely Greek or Latin in origin, titles such as Thalia ‘blossoming’, Calisto ‘most beautiful’ and Melantha ‘dark flower’ all allude to characteristics adopted by the amorphous land masses further embracing the concept of Nature and man’s enduring relationship with it.

Her paintings essentially reflect the drama and pulse of life, celebrating and capturing its vitality and turbulent rhythmns in a dynamic and mesmerising way.
