History and Background
A scientist by profession, Jos Haigh first started to paint as decoration for her 10-year-old son’s bedroom. She created a series of pictures of dragons for children before deciding to marry her art with her love of gardening. She says: "I enjoy experimenting with unconventional combinations and creating the unexpected. I believe all colours go together.” Working mainly in acrylics on canvas, her semi abstract floral works are imbued with colour and light
Ideas and Inspirations
Jos Haigh is entirely self-taught, taking inspiration from a range of artists from Van Gogh to contemporary artist Georgia O’Keefe.
She says: “I have not had any formal art school training but I have always sketched, coloured and painted ever since I can remember. I’m all about flowers. Blazing colours of big beautiful blooms that are both dreamy and luscious. I like working in acrylic because it allows me to use strong colours with texture to add depth and vitality to my art.”
