Leo Davey studied illustration at Falmouth College of Art where he specialised in children’s picture books. He now lives and works in his home town of Minehead in West Somerset where he has a studio/Gallery. Tooth brushes, paint brushes, dip pens, pencils and inks all feature in the creation of his watercolours. Working from a combination of sketches and photographs, Leo punctuates his realistic depictions with stylized pattern and a distinctive language of marks and colour. Leo chooses his subjects from a growing collection of photos that he takes when out and about and on his travels to Thailand, Mexico, the Red Sea, Spain, Portugal and elsewhere. In the last couple of years Leo has won the “Evolver Prize”, has been a prize winner at the A303, Milfield and Ilminster open exhibitions. He has shown at the RWA and had paintings in “The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition 2012” and the “Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour” at London’s Mall Galleries.
